Questions before you choose
What tank size should I start with?
The largest you can give space and budget to. Contrary to what most people expect, a bigger tank is easier for a beginner, because the larger volume of water softens the effect of any mistake. A small tank changes faster and harder.
What is the difference between regular and ultra-clear glass?
Ultra-clear glass has a low iron content, so it does not show the green tint you see at the edges of regular glass, and fish and decor colours look cleaner and truer. The difference is looks and clarity only, not strength or thickness.
What do I need with the tank from the start?
A filter sized for it, a heater if the fish are tropical, lighting, and a dechlorinator for the first fill. The tank alone is not a start; plan all four together before buying, and the new aquarium setup guide walks through them in order.
